Disney Believe Cruise Ship Construction Begins with Tinker Bell Magic
Meyer Werft has commenced the construction of Disney Cruise Line's newest vessel, Disney Believe, with a traditional keel-laying ceremony in Papenburg, Germany. The event marked the start of assembling the ship's second gigablock, following the earlier completion of its first gigablock, which is now at the shipyard's outfitting quay. A specially minted coin featuring Tinker Bell was placed beneath the keel, adhering to maritime tradition for good fortune and safe voyages.
The coin and the ship's bow will both bear Tinker Bell, the beloved fairy from Disney’s 1953 film Peter Pan. Known for her associations with magic, flight, and adventure, Tinker Bell’s presence aligns well with the cruise ship’s mission to transport guests around the world. Disney Believe will boast 1,256 staterooms and a gross tonnage of 144,000 GT, with its delivery scheduled for 2027.
Attendees at the ceremony included Disney Cruise Line Senior Vice President Tracy Wilson, Portfolio Executive Andres Ovalles, Meyer Werft CEO André Walter, and COO Jörg Heidelberg. Disney Believe will be the fourth vessel in the Wish-class fleet, following Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny. The ship will use liquefied natural gas for propulsion, adhering to modern environmental standards.
Meyer Werft has a history of building Disney Cruise Line vessels, including Disney Wish, delivered in 2021, and Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, delivered between 2010 and 2012. Disney Believe is set to uphold the shipyard’s reputation for quality while meeting Disney’s high standards for entertainment and onboard amenities.
