Disney Believe Gigablock Construction Underway in Germany
The Disney Believe, the next ship to join the Disney Cruise Line fleet, is taking shape in Germany. Walt Disney Imagineering and the Disney Cruise Line have revealed that the ship is being built using a technology called gigablock. This is a significant update as it marks the first time a Disney ship has been constructed in this manner.
The construction of the Disney Believe began with the floating out of its first gigablock from the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. This midship section of the ship includes familiar areas such as the Grand Hall, which will be enjoyed by guests. The next two gigablocks, the forward and aft portions of the ship, are currently under construction.
The Disney Believe is expected to join the Disney Cruise Line fleet in late 2027. This new technology allows for larger sections of the ship to be built individually before being welded together. Each gigablock can weigh over 31,000 tons and can float independently before being joined with the others.
