Disney+ Brings Beloved Sci-Fi Series Animorphs to Life

Disney+ has acquired the rights to adapt the popular young adult sci-fi series Animorphs into a live-action TV show. The news was reported by Variety, which revealed that Bayan Wolcott will be writing and executive producing the series. Ryan Coogler, Sev Ohanian, and Zinzi Coogler will also be executive producers through their production company Proximity Media.

Animorphs follows a group of teenagers who discover an alien technology that allows them to morph into different animals. However, this power comes with a great responsibility as they become embroiled in a galactic war between the Andalites and the parasitic Yeerks. As the Yeerks begin to invade Earth, the Animorphs must band together with their Andalite ally Ax to stop them.

The original series consists of 54 books, along with eight companion novels that expand on the world's lore. The show is based on the co-written works of Katherine Applegate and Michael Grant. The series has already been adapted into a TV show that aired on Nickelodeon for 26 episodes between 1998 and 2000.

The new Disney+ adaptation will have plenty to draw from, given the sheer number of books in the series. Fans are eagerly anticipating the show's take on the characters' transformations and the darkness of the original books. With Coogler and his team at the helm, it's likely that the show will delve deeper into the complexities of the story.
