Disney Cruise Panel Reveals Hidden Scandinavian Roots
The Disney Dream cruise ship sailed through Northern Europe this week as part of its Member Cruise in 2026, visiting several ports along the way. One stop was Copenhagen's Tivoli Gardens, a park that has had a significant influence on Disney's own Imagineering efforts.
A panel discussion titled 'Part of Our World: Disney Inspirations in Scandinavia' brought together two seasoned Imagineers, Tony Baxter and Bob Weis, to share their insights on the connections between Tivoli and Walt Disney's vision for Disneyland. The conversation was moderated by Disney Legend Jodi Benson.
The panelists discussed how Tivoli's founder, Georg Carstensen, described his park as 'never truly finished', echoing Walt Disney's own description of Disneyland. They emphasized that both parks have endured due to their ability to evolve and refresh themselves constantly, always looking for new ways to engage with their audience.
Weis also shared a previously unpublished quote from Walt Disney himself, describing Tivoli as an inspiration for the cleanliness, friendly spirit, and civic pride he aimed to build into Disneyland. Baxter recalled his own consulting work at Tivoli, where he was tasked with bringing an immersive, narrative approach to the park's guest experience.
