The Government of West Bengal has granted approval for a comprehensive mineral exploration drive in the Jhargram district, focusing on manganese reserves.

The initiative follows earlier efforts to develop the Ashoknagar oilfield and marks another mineral investigation within the state. MOIL Limited will lead ground operations in coordination with central and state exploration bodies, including the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM).

A joint reconnaissance survey is scheduled for September 15-19, 2026, to assess the geological and mineral potential of identified areas. The findings will be compiled and submitted by MOIL for consideration of further exploration.
