Disney Ditches Dick Tracy Crime Ride Plans

Disney had big plans to bring the world of Dick Tracy to life in its theme parks. According to Parkeology, both Disneyland in California and Disney-MGM Studios in Florida were set to add new 'neighborhoods' inspired by the 1930s detective comic.

The neighborhoods would feature cobblestone streets, crumbling brick walls, and unique shops and eateries. The star attraction was supposed to be Dick Tracy's Crime-Stoppers, a high-tech action-adventure ride where guests could join America's favorite comic-strip detective in a high-speed chase with his gangster adversaries.

Guests would ride in vintage roadsters equipped with realistic-looking Tommy guns and pursue classic villains like Flattop and Big Boy Caprice through an intricate cityscape. The ride was designed to be suitable for younger audiences, but its level of violence and action is unlikely to fly today.
