Disney Dominates US Theme Park Industry Amid Rivals' Decline
Disney's theme park attendance has seen a significant boost in the US, bucking the trend of its competitors. According to recent figures, Disney saw a 3% increase in visitors during the second quarter compared to the same period last year.
This marks the biggest jump since 2023, when the post-COVID-19 theme park boom subsided. In contrast, other major US theme parks like Universal Studios and SeaWorld reported decreases in attendance. United Parks and Resorts, which operates SeaWorld, saw a 2.9% drop in visitors during the second quarter.
Disney's success can be attributed to its aggressive discount promotions. The company offered free 'park hopping' for children aged 3-9, as well as low-priced passes for the summer vacation season. Some resorts even offered up to 30% off room rates for stays of five nights or more.
The strategy seems to have paid off, with families who had previously hesitated to visit due to high costs now flocking to Disney theme parks. Jonathan D'Araujo, head of The Vacationeer Travel Agency, noted that the increase in reservations has continued for months and is expected to continue into the fall and next year.
