Disney+ Fails to Include Marvel and Star Wars in New Playlists Feature
Disney+ is rolling out a new feature called Playlists, which will allow users to create themed collections of TV episodes and movies for continuous viewing. This feature will provide playback controls and make it easier for viewers to binge-watch content curated by genre, franchise, character, or mood.
The initial launch does not include playlists centered on Marvel Studios movies and TV shows or Star Wars, despite both franchises being major presences on the streaming service. However, Disney has confirmed that more playlists will be added in the future, with a focus on Halloween-centric stories.
Disney's decision to exclude Marvel and Star Wars from the initial launch is surprising, given their popularity among viewers. The two franchises have nearly three dozen properties developed exclusively for Disney+, and over 40 movies available on the streamer. This suggests that there is enough material to create multiple playlists for both franchises.
It remains unclear when or if Marvel and Star Wars will be included in the Playlists feature, but Disney may provide an update later this year, possibly with the arrival of Halloween properties.
