Disney Fans Urge Update or Removal of Outdated Tomorrowland Ride
The Tomorrowland Speedway in Disney World's Magic Kingdom has been a source of controversy among fans for decades. The ride, which was one of the original attractions at Disneyland when it opened in 1955 and later ported over to the Magic Kingdom in 1971, takes up valuable real estate in a highly trafficked area of the park.
Many fans feel that the space could be better utilized, especially with the recent addition of TRON Lightcycle / Run and Space Mountain nearby. Additionally, the theme of driving on a highway that was once futuristic is now commonplace, making the ride seem dated to some guests.
The smell of gasoline from the gas-powered vehicles has also been an issue for many years, but there is hope for change. In 2027, Disneyland's Autopia will be transitioning to fully electric vehicles, and fans are holding out that a similar update could come to the Magic Kingdom version.
