Disney has filed for a patent on an AI-powered system designed to monitor and predict mechanical problems in its theme park ride equipment. The system, which uses machine learning models to analyze audio recordings of ride equipment, aims to reduce unexpected downtime and improve overall guest experience.
The proposed system involves installing microphones near ride equipment to capture sound patterns during operation. These recordings are then analyzed by two separate machine learning models: one trained on a library of human voice recordings layered over background noise, and another that attempts to reconstruct the normal operating sound of the equipment.
The system would flag anomalies in the sound patterns, potentially preventing mechanical failures and reducing the need for last-minute repairs. While the patent filing does not guarantee that Disney will implement this technology, it reflects a broader trend towards AI-powered monitoring and predictive maintenance within the company.
