Disney Files Permits for New Construction at Polynesian Village Resort
Walt Disney World’s Polynesian Village Resort, a beloved destination since its opening in 1971, is set for new construction. Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a Notice of Commencement for work at the resort, with Faden Builders serving as the primary contractor. The project focuses on the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, a relatively new addition that opened in December 2024.
The Island Tower stands out as the resort’s first significant vertical structure, replacing the former Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show. It features modern Disney Vacation Club villas, Duo Studios, and fireworks-view penthouses. The tower has already gained popularity for its amenities, including the Wailulu Bar & Grill and the Cove Pool with interactive water features inspired by Moana.
While routine maintenance permits are common across Disney World, filings from Walt Disney Imagineering often indicate guest-facing modifications or enhancements. The return of construction equipment to the site suggests upcoming changes, though details remain undisclosed. Travelers and Disney Vacation Club members are advised to watch the Seven Seas Lagoon skyline for the next evolution of this iconic resort.
