Disney Hosts First-Ever 'Created in LA' Event
The Walt Disney Company hosted its first 'Created in LA' event, bringing together over 350 creators from around the world. The two-day event aimed to foster collaboration and share creative processes among attendees. Jon Youshaei, creator of the event, expressed his excitement at seeing creators' videos celebrated on a screen like the historic El Capitan Theatre's red carpet.
The first video screened was 'The Technoblade Movie,' created by brothers Lucas Nicotra and Curtis Nicotra, also known as filmmaking duo Sticks. They gained popularity by surprising YouTubers with their own movies, including Ryan Trahan and Mark Rober. The event continued with a screening of Zach King's 'Cardboard Wars' and ended with an exclusive tour of Walt's Office.
The second day of the event took place at The Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, CA, where creators and executives shared insights into the creator economy. Josh D'Amaro, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, spoke about embracing top storytellers and pushing new frontiers. Sessions included 'Behind The Magic: Tips from 18 Years on YouTube' by Zach King and 'How To Make Shows, Not Just Videos' by The Try Guys.
Asad Ayaz, Chief Brand Officer at Disney, discussed the company's integration of creator partnerships into their workflow following their new TikTok deal. He highlighted opportunities for creators to access Disney brands and have their content appear on TikTok and Disney+.
