Disney Imagineers Reveal Tropical Americas Architecture Process

Walt Disney Imagineers have revealed the process of creating architecture for Tropical Americas at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The team spent two years testing and refining their designs to ensure they met the highest standards, both aesthetically and structurally. To achieve this, they inspected every piece that would be part of Tropical Americas, including walls, columns, and hardscapes, making adjustments as needed.

The Imagineers drew inspiration from local areas in real places, aiming for an authentic experience for guests. However, unlike in some actual communities, they did not use horse manure to create their samples. Instead, they incorporated sustainable practices and humble materials into their designs, striving for a natural look and feel that has aged appropriately after being exposed to the elements.

The final product is set to replace DinoLand, which closed incrementally as construction began in early 2025. The new land will feature attractions such as a carousel, an Encanto-themed experience, a playground, and an Indiana Jones adventure, replacing DINOSAUR. Tropical Americas is expected to open at Animal Kingdom in 2027.
