Disney Legend Susan Egan Reflects on Her Iconic Roles

Susan Egan's journey as a Disney Princess began when she originated the role of Belle in Disney on Broadway's Beauty and the Beast, earning Tony Award and Drama Desk nominations for Best Actress. She also lent her voice to Megara in Walt Disney Animation Studios' feature film Hercules (1997).

Egan discovered that these unique characters resonated with her because they didn't fit traditional princess molds. Belle was intelligent and independent, while Meg was sarcastic and strong-willed.

Taking on roles like Belle and Megara led Egan to become a prolific performer in film, television, and theater. She has headlined on Broadway in Cabaret, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Triumph of Love, and State Fair, among others. Her world-class singing has also taken her around the globe, with over 70 symphony orchestra performances.

In recent years, Egan has turned her attention to producing live concert events through her company, 10th & Main Productions. She has worked closely with various divisions of the Walt Disney Company, creating and producing concerts like Walt Disney Animation Studios: The Concert and Disney '80s-'90s Celebration in Concert.
