Disney Magic Kingdom Transformed: Rivers of America Removed Amid Major Expansion
The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World is undergoing a significant transformation with the permanent removal of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. This change is part of a larger project that includes the development of Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land, two major expansions that will bring new rides and experiences to the park.
Aerial footage shared by theme park photographer Bioreconstruct shows the massive construction area where the Rivers of America once flowed. The removal of this iconic area is significant for longtime visitors who have fond memories of Frontierland's nostalgic atmosphere.
The construction work is moving forward, with a tower crane recently added to build Cars Ridge Run Rally, an attraction that will be partially underground. Excavations are also ongoing in Villains Land as infrastructure work continues.
Piston Peak National Park, which will bring the world of Cars (2006) into Frontierland, is designed to resemble America's national parks. It will feature Cars Ridge Run Rally as one of its major attractions. Meanwhile, Villains Land will be dedicated to Disney's famous animated villains.
