Disney Monorails Shut Down in Rare Double Disruption
On September 16, a transportation headache hit Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom when both the Express and Resort Monorail lines stopped operating. The sudden shutdown left guests scrambling to find alternative ways to get around.
The Express line normally runs directly between Magic Kingdom and the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC), but it was forced to stop, leaving guests to rely on other forms of transportation. Initially, the Resort Monorail seemed like a viable backup option, as it takes a longer route that serves hotels surrounding Seven Seas Lagoon.
However, even this alternative was soon disrupted when the Resort line stopped operating as well. The Resort train eventually departed and another one arrived before parking, but not before guests were forced to exit at Disney's Contemporary Resort. It remains unclear whether the two shutdowns are related or if they were separate incidents.
The EPCOT Monorail continued to operate, providing some relief for guests traveling between that park and TTC. However, those headed towards Magic Kingdom still had to rely on other forms of transportation, including ferryboats, which were operating normally during the disruption.
