Disney Opens Up Vault to Netflix with Exclusive Licensing Deal
The entertainment giant Disney has announced a nonexclusive licensing agreement with Netflix, allowing a mix of its films and series to stream on the platform. The first titles will arrive on October 4, including all five Ice Age films and the first two seasons of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
This three-month window is intended to promote and earn money from Disney's own content, even though the companies compete for subscribers. Variety reported that Disney sees Netflix's massive customer base of over 325 million as a way to reach new audiences before its own releases.
The agreement also includes several network series ahead of new seasons, such as Felicity, which will be available on Netflix in the U.S. on October 7, and Will Trent, which joins globally on November 3. Shifting Gears seasons 1 and 2 will arrive on December 1 in the U.S., while Tracker will stream outside the U.S. from February 26.
In early 2027, a selection of non-franchised Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar films will be available on Netflix globally, including Soul, Elio, and Raya and the Last Dragon. Several library series are also part of the deal, with Revenge and Army Wives set for global release.
