The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, had a profound impact on Walt Disney World and Disneyland. According to Mickey Visit, the parks were closed immediately due to concerns that they could be targets for similar attacks.

Cast members at Walt Disney World described the scene as 'grim' and told of being instructed not to reveal the reason for the closure unless asked directly by guests. The public address system announcements did not mention the terrorist attacks, stating only that the parks were closed due to circumstances beyond their control.

The cast members used a 'human wall procedure' to gently usher guests out of the parks, forming a line and guiding them towards the exit. Guests who left early received complimentary tickets on their way out. At Disneyland, the gates were never opened that day, with cast members preparing for opening before being instructed to close the park.

In the days following 9/11, Disneyland Resort implemented new security measures, including adding security gates and police presence on property, as well as changing the shuttle route for cast members. The cast member shared their experiences of the event, and many reflected on the camaraderie among the Disney team during that time.
