Disney Parks Collect Guest Data with Biometric Tech
Disney theme parks rely heavily on data collection to provide visitors with a personalized experience. This includes using various technologies such as biometric fingerprints, face scanning, and GPS to track guest movements and preferences.
The MagicBand+ wrist device allows guests to save their credit or debit card information, tickets, and reservations, making it convenient for them to make purchases and navigate the park without needing a wallet or phone. However, this also means that Disney can collect data on their rides taken, purchases made, and other preferences.
Disney has been using facial recognition technology at its parks since 2026, with cameras taking pictures of guests upon entry and comparing them to the images generated when they first used their tickets. This allows for easier re-entry and reduced ticket fraud. Annual pass holders can also upload photos of themselves and their children under 18 to the Shanghai Disney Resort app.
Guests can opt out of some data collection features, including facial recognition technology, by checking Disney's Privacy Policy and using alternative methods such as bringing a photo ID that matches the name on the ticket. However, opting out may limit access to certain perks, such as mobile food orders and walking directions.
