Disney Patents Wheelchair-Friendly Ride System
Disney has filed a patent application for a new solution to help wheelchair users access ride vehicles at theme parks. The problem is that current transfer tracks are not always effective, especially on non-flat surfaces.
The company's proposed system, called Rider Inclusive Transport Aide (RITA), would equip ride vehicles with a sloping access platform to offset the slope of the ride. This would allow wheelchair users to board and exit the vehicle without having to transfer onto a flat surface.
Disney's solution addresses a common challenge faced by theme parks, where guests with disabilities may need assistance getting on and off ride vehicles. The company's patent application provides more details on how RITA works and how it can be implemented in different types of rides.
