Disney Pivots on AI, Seeks Balance Between Tech and Human Creativity
Disney's commitment to AI has been met with controversy, particularly in regards to copyright infringement. Despite this, Disney is moving forward with its plans to utilize artificial intelligence across various aspects of its business.
During a recent Q3 2026 earnings call, CEO Josh D'Amaro emphasized the company's desire to stay at the forefront of emerging technology, citing Walt Disney himself as an innovator who pushed the boundaries of what was possible. According to D'Amaro, AI is intended to augment human creativity and help artists work more efficiently.
The entertainment giant plans to leverage AI in several key areas: film production, where it can assist with visual effects, 3D rendering, and premium formats; streaming platforms, where AI will enhance personalization and recommendation engines; advertising, with the development of generative AI-powered creatives; and theme park operations, where AI will help optimize labor demand forecasting.
D'Amaro stressed that Disney aims to maintain a balance between technological advancements and human-driven creativity. The company's goal is not to replace artists but rather to empower them with innovative tools that streamline the creative process.
