Disney+ Pushes Boundaries with TV-MA Content and Mature Themes
Disney+ has expanded far beyond its original offerings of family-friendly movies and shows. The streaming service is now promoting content that is decidedly not for families, including the upcoming release of American Horror Story Season 13.
This show carries a TV-MA rating, which means it contains mature themes, disturbing imagery, violence, and sexual content. It's about as far removed from traditional Disney family entertainment as you can get.
The presence of this type of content on Disney+ reflects the service's gradual shift towards becoming more like Hulu. As a result, subscribers are getting a much broader range of entertainment in one place, but families need to be aware that not all content is suitable for children.
Disney+ does offer parental controls, including Junior Mode profiles designed to limit access to mature content. However, parents still need to pay attention to which profile they're using and be mindful of the recommendations and promotional artwork displayed on the screen.
