Disney Revamps Streaming Leadership Amid Price Hikes
The Walt Disney Company has revamped its streaming and technology leadership with new appointments. Karandeep Anand, former chief of Character.AI, is now Disney's first Chief Technology Officer (CTO), while Adam Smith will lead the company's direct-to-consumer business as Chairman.
These changes come alongside price hikes for ad-free Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions. Despite this, Disney's share price has edged up 3.39% over the past week, with a year-to-date return of -5.10%
The company's longer-term record is mixed, however. Over three years, its total shareholder return was 35.08%, but it dropped to -37.80% over five years.
Analysts believe that Disney's new tech leadership and higher streaming prices will allow the company to squeeze more value from its brands.
