Disney Revives Abandoned Location Near Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney World is reviving a long-abandoned location near Magic Kingdom, according to a new permit filed for Tangaroa Terrace at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. The building, which has served as a buffet restaurant, children's activity center, and cast member break area over the years, will undergo work that will last until December 31, 2027.

The permit was filed by Disney's Facility Asset Management division, with contractor KHS&S assigned to the project. However, the scope of the work remains unclear, as it simply lists 'general conditions.'

Tangaroa Terrace has a long history at the Polynesian, having originally operated as a buffet restaurant before later becoming the Neverland Club, a children's activity center. More recently, Disney has used the building as a cast member break area.

While it is unclear what Disney plans to do with Tangaroa Terrace, the combination of its location near Magic Kingdom and the lengthy timeline attached to the permit makes its future much more interesting. The 2027 expiration date doesn't guarantee that the building will become a restaurant or another public venue, but it does suggest that Disney is preparing to do something with it.
