Clovis Woman Arrested for Allegedly Using Employer's Credit Card for $4M in Personal Purchases

Kelly Lynn Brown, a 47-year-old bookkeeper from Clovis, California, has been arrested for allegedly using her employer's company American Express credit card to make over $4 million in unauthorized personal purchases.

Brown worked at a Fresno business specializing in custom countertops and commercial hardwood products. Between November 2020 and October 2024, she had access to the personally identifiable information of employees, including the business owner.

Brown recommended that her employer get an American Express credit card for business expenses in January 2021, but he was not interested. Two weeks later, Brown gave him two American Express credit cards - one under his personal name and the other under the business name.

Unknown to her employer, Brown then got a credit card in her own name under his American Express account without his authorization. She used the credit card for luxury retail purchases, travel, health and beauty treatments, and even made down payments on a 2022 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500.

Brown also started an online apparel store, Western Edge Boutique, in August 2022 and used the unauthorized credit card to make numerous clothing and apparel-related purchases. To conceal her scheme, she made payments to American Express from the business's bank account between 2021 and 2024.
