Disney Revives Abandoned Restaurant at Popular Polynesian Village Resort
Walt Disney World's Polynesian Village Resort has been struggling to meet the demands of its guests, and one possible solution is being explored. A long-abandoned restaurant called Tangaroa Terrace could be revived as a dining venue at the resort. The space was previously used for group events and Cast Member offices but has been vacant since 1996.
Two construction permits have been filed by Walt Disney World, which suggest that work may be underway to renovate or rebuild Tangaroa Terrace. However, some experts are cautioning against getting too excited about the possibility of a new restaurant at the Poly. The permits were filed by the Facility Asset Management team, which typically handles maintenance and upkeep projects rather than creative ones led by Imagineering.
The Polynesian Village Resort has been plagued by infrastructure problems, including overcrowding and inadequate dining options. A rooftop restaurant or lounge would have helped address these issues when the Island Tower was first conceived, but it was ultimately left out to save costs. The Poly is a fan-favorite resort, but its current state is not meeting the expectations of guests.
