Disney Secures Approval for Fifth Theme Park at Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World has secured approval to build a fifth major theme park on its Central Florida property, according to a report from TheStreet. This comes as no surprise, given that the company already has enormous projects underway or planned across its existing parks.

The Comprehensive Plan 2045, which outlines potential development across Walt Disney World's massive property, shows that there is room for one major and two minor theme parks. However, it specifically states that there are currently 'no plans under review' for a fifth park.

This has raised interest in the possibility of a new park being built, especially given the recent opening of Universal Orlando Resort's Epic Universe in May 2025. Disney's leadership has emphasized expansions to existing parks rather than discussing a fifth gate.

However, with D23 taking place this weekend, some speculate that Disney may use the event as an opportunity to announce plans for a new park. If so, it would be a major development and send a message to Universal that Disney is committed to remaining the top destination in Central Florida.
