Disney Slashes Hundreds More Jobs Amid Leadership Transition
Disney has announced another round of layoffs, impacting hundreds of employees across various sectors. According to multiple reports, the tech and HR departments will be most affected by the cuts.
The number of layoffs is reportedly less than in previous rounds, which saw around 1,000 positions eliminated in April across Disney's marketing group, studio, TV divisions, ESPN, products, technology, and certain corporate functions. Another round of layoffs occurred in July, with several hundred employees let go at Pixar, ESPN, Disney Studios, and Disney Entertainment Television.
The company is undergoing a leadership transition, with Josh D'Amaro taking charge as CEO in March amidst a period of transformation driven by the rise of AI, declining box office revenue, and increased competition from streaming rivals. As part of this restructuring push, Disney offered voluntary early retirement packages to longtime executives in August.
