Disney Slashes Hundreds More Jobs Amid Restructuring Push
Walt Disney Company has initiated another round of layoffs, affecting hundreds of employees. The cuts are reportedly focused on tech and HR departments, but a team within the TV division will be spared from the restructuring process. This latest development follows two earlier rounds of job reductions in April and July, which saw over 1,000 employees let go.
According to Deadline, the layoffs were anticipated after a memo by Chief Legal and Global Affairs Officer Horacio Gutierrez was leaked last week. Gutierrez warned about 'hard choices' regarding 'staffing investments' and mentioned the division becoming 'a much smaller organization.' He also touched upon the role of AI in automating certain workflows.
It is worth noting that Disney's CEO, Josh D'Amaro, took over from Bob Iger in a period marked by significant job cuts. The company had approximately 231,000 employees at the end of fiscal year 2025, with 172,000 based in the U.S. and 59,000 elsewhere.
