Disney Taps TikTok for Fan-Made Videos in Bid to Compete with Short-Form Platforms
Disney has partnered with TikTok to integrate fan-made videos into its Disney+ streaming service. The deal will allow creators to opt-in and have their short-form videos run in two places at once, on TikTok and in Verts, a vertical video feed added to Disney+ in March 2026.
The partnership is seen as a way for Disney to compete with the growing popularity of TikTok, where fans are creating and sharing content based on Disney's movies and TV shows. According to internal data, nearly half of surveyed viewers said they went on to watch a movie or show on a streaming service after finding entertainment content on TikTok.
Disney had previously planned to use AI-assisted videos in this way, but a $1 billion partnership with OpenAI was scrapped when the company discontinued its Sora platform in March 2026. The new deal does not mention whether AI-assisted videos will be permitted under the program.
