Disney Taps TikTok Talent, EA Enters Private Ownership
Disney and TikTok have announced a new partnership that will bring creator-made vertical videos to Disney's streaming app, Disney+. The deal allows TikTok creators who choose to participate access to hundreds of Disney movies and TV shows for use in short-form videos on both the social media platform and the Verts feed on Disney+. This effort is part of Disney's plan to boost engagement and reduce churn on its streaming platform, with CEO Josh D'Amaro aiming to make Disney+ into the 'digital centerpiece' of the company.
The partnership will start in the US in the coming months, with additional markets to follow. The move comes as the entertainment industry continues to shift towards online platforms, with Disney looking to stay ahead of the curve.
Meanwhile, Electronic Arts has officially gone private after being acquired by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund PIF, investment firm Silver Lake Partners, and Affinity Partners for a record $55 billion. The acquisition marks a significant shift in the gaming industry, with EA's new owners pledging to 'invest boldly' and accelerate innovation.
