Amazon's AWS Segment Drives Growth, Fuels Market Cap Surge

Amazon's market capitalization briefly surpassed $3 trillion after its strong second-quarter earnings, but it has since dipped below that mark. The company is one of only five in the tech sector to reach this milestone, along with Nvidia, Alphabet, Apple, and Microsoft.

The tech sector as a whole faces concerns over valuation, but Amazon's forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 33 times does not indicate stretched valuations. Goldman Sachs noted that unlike during the dot-com era, corporate profits have risen to new highs rather than deteriorating.

Amazon's growth outlook is positive, driven by its AWS segment, which reported its fastest growth in 18 quarters. The company's AI business exceeded $25 billion in annual revenue run-rate and saw triple-digit-percentage year-over-year growth.
