Disney Tests 'Fear Alerts' for Theme Park Guests
The Walt Disney Company is testing new technology to allow guests at its theme parks to input their personal fears, receiving in-the-moment notifications on their mobile devices if they are about to encounter those fears.
The feature would warn guests of potential scares based on the rides and attractions they are approaching. For example, if a guest inputs that they are afraid of the dark, the app would alert them before boarding Space Mountain.
However, critics argue that this technology is unnecessary, as the elements of each ride are self-evident from the time a guest enters the queue. They also claim that it takes away from the experience, making guests rely too heavily on their phones rather than enjoying the park itself.
