Disney TV Restructuring Targets Hundreds of Jobs Amid Broader Cost Cuts
Disney is restructuring its television business to consolidate divisions and reduce costs, according to reports. The move is expected to result in hundreds of layoffs, primarily among senior executives overseeing programming for Disney+, Hulu, and linear channels.
The restructuring effort is being led by Debra OConnell, chairman of Disney Entertainment Television, who oversees a portfolio of units including ABC Entertainment, 20th Television, and National Geographic Content.
Disney President and Chief Creative Officer Dana Walden framed the move as strategic, stating that the company will be 'centralizing as a television business, not a bunch of silos.'
The restructuring is part of a broader cost-cutting campaign under CEO Josh D'Amaro, who has pledged to run 'One Disney.'
