Disney Unveils Ambitious Plans for Integrated Streaming Ecosystem
The Walt Disney Company's Chief Financial Officer, Hugh Johnston, recently provided insight into the company's plans for its streaming services at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference.
Disney+ aims to become the best streaming service by integrating various aspects of Disney under one umbrella, including parks and cruises. This integrated ecosystem would allow users to interact with multiple Disney entities seamlessly, making it more than just a video platform but also for gaming, merchandise, and other experiences.
Johnston emphasized the goal is to increase user frequency and retention on Disney+, which has seen positive results from integrating Hulu into its service. This integration has led to reduced turnover and improved outcomes.
In addition to this development, Johnston mentioned live TV and Hulu add-ons/bundles will be integrated further into Disney+. One strategic pivot for the company is offering a free version of Disney+, which includes FAST channels and free ad-supported TV without compromising the user experience. This move aims to increase Disney+ consumers and ad inventory.
