Disney Unveils Reimagined Carousel of Progress Costumes and Dioramas

The reimagining of Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress is taking shape at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The attraction, which has been closed since early 2024 for a major update, will feature new costumes and dioramas showcasing the carousel family living in different eras.

Guests can view these displays next to the live-action Ariel meet-and-greet area within Walt Disney Presents at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The costumes on display include John's outfit from Act I, set in 1969, which draws inspiration from his appearance in the 1964-65 New York World's Fair Progressland show.

Designers worked tirelessly to ensure that even the smallest details stay true to the decade being depicted. The show will feature a brand-new opening scene inspired by the 1964 television special Disneyland Goes to the World's Fair, where guests will step onto that soundstage with Walt Disney himself as he introduces Carousel of Progress to the world.

The Carousel of Progress is set to reopen in late spring 2027 and will take guests through the history of the American family beginning around the turn of the century. The latest iteration will feature scenes taking place in 1969, 1985, 1999, and the distant future.
