Disney Vet Shares Unpredictable Career Path with Auburn Students
Jeff Vahle, former president of Walt Disney World, spoke to engineering students at Auburn University about his 36-year career with The Walt Disney Company. He reflected on how his path was not always predictable and encouraged students to focus on their current job and do it well.
Vahle earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Auburn University in 1985, but he did not immediately join Disney after graduating. Instead, he worked for Eastman Kodak through a scholarship program as a mechanical engineer supporting maintenance and utilities for five years.
In 1990, Vahle joined The Walt Disney Company as a maintenance manager at Magic Kingdom. Over the next three decades, he held leadership roles in developing and operating Disney destinations worldwide. He became president of Walt Disney World in July 2020 and led the resort through its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vahle emphasized that his career was not linear and that people should be open to different opportunities and experiences. He encouraged students interested in working for Disney to pursue opportunities such as internships or the Disney College Program to gain firsthand experience.
