Disney World Announces Major Transformations Ahead of 60th Anniversary Celebration

The Walt Disney World Resort is undergoing significant transformations in preparation for its 60th anniversary celebration in 2031. The resort has grown exponentially since its opening in 1971, and with major updates announced at this year's D23 Expo, it will be unrecognizable by the time of the milestone event.

One of the most notable changes is the redevelopment of DinoLand U.S.A. in Disney's Animal Kingdom, which has officially closed to make way for the Tropical Americas-inspired Pueblo Esperanza. This new land will feature signature attractions based on Encanto and Indiana Jones franchises and is expected to open in 2027.

Disney's Hollywood Studios will also be getting a major revamp with the introduction of Monstropolis, a land inspired by the movie Monsters, Inc. The area will feature numerous new experiences, including the Glob Theater and Harryhausen's Restaurant, as well as a first-of-its-kind indoor coaster based on the movie's iconic door chase sequence.

The Magic Kingdom theme park is also undergoing significant changes with the introduction of Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land. These areas will feature new attractions, stores, and dining experiences, including a Maleficent-inspired roller coaster and Magic Mirror ride in Villains Land.
