Disney World Raises Memory Maker and Merchandise Prices
Walt Disney World has implemented a series of price increases across various services and merchandise, with the latest changes affecting Memory Maker photo packages and select items in the Disney Store. The most notable adjustment was to the Memory Maker One Day option, which rose from $75 to $85, while the three-day advance purchase and standard Memory Maker packages remained unchanged at $185 and $210, respectively. This targeted increase suggests a strategic move to encourage guests to opt for the more comprehensive and cost-effective advance purchase option, especially since the break-even point for photo days has shifted to roughly two days.
The pricing shift also extends to Disney World merchandise, with standard Mickey and Minnie ear headbands seeing a $2 increase to $38.99. While this may seem minor, the impact is more significant for passholders who benefit from a 20% discount on select items. The discount now results in a $31.19 price tag for the ears, compared to the previous $29.59, effectively passing the cost increase onto frequent shoppers and collectors. This aligns with Disney's broader strategy of catering to repeat customers who engage with seasonal and exclusive merchandise offerings.
Across the board, Disney has maintained certain entry-level prices, such as the cheapest one-day ticket and the standard Memory Maker package, while increasing costs on premium tiers, impulse purchases, and captive products. The pattern indicates a deliberate effort to protect the affordability perception of core offerings while generating additional revenue from ancillary services and high-demand items. Guests are advised to plan ahead and purchase Memory Maker in advance if they anticipate needing photos on multiple days, as the advance package offers better value starting from the second day of use.
Disney has not indicated whether further price increases are expected this month. The latest adjustments come amidst a backdrop of broader cost hikes, including annual pass renewals, Lightning Lane pricing, and a variety of food items across the parks and resorts.
