Disney World Unveils Monster Progress on Monstropolis Ahead of 2027 Opening

Walt Disney World is rapidly making progress on Monstropolis, its upcoming themed land in Hollywood Studios. The land will feature two distinct areas: the front half, which includes Dark Avenue, and the back half, where the massive Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster is being built.

The construction of the door coaster has been quite extensive, with significant progress made on the roller coaster's infrastructure. Two tall steel structures are rising on opposite sides of the central space, forming the attraction's vertical lift systems. The load station will be styled after the factory's large scare laugh floor, featuring two side-by-side loading stations beneath distinctive archways.

The door coaster is expected to be one of the largest show buildings in Walt Disney World, almost on par with the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind building at EPCOT. It's likely to be a tall and efficient show building, with multiple levels of winding track and potential queue and pre-show areas under the roller coaster track.

The front half of Monstropolis is also undergoing significant changes, with scaffolding being removed from The Glob theater and new brickwork on its facade becoming visible. Concrete columns have been rebuilt in a slightly different location to mark the entrance, and groundwork has been laid for an underground fountain. The land will feature several themed restaurants and retail shops when it opens in 2027.
