Disney World's Iconic Contemporary Tower Undergoes Major Refurbishment

Walt Disney World Resort is celebrating its 55th birthday as it undergoes significant construction on one of its original structures, the Contemporary Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort.

The refurbishment, which began in September 2024, aims to restore existing walls, windows, and balconies rather than redesigning the structure entirely. The project has already experienced a delay, with an original completion date of July 2026 pushed back to late 2027.

Construction is currently taking place on both sides of the tower, with scaffolding covering multiple architectural bays. The refurbishment will impact guest access and views from various locations throughout the resort hotel, with alternate paths of travel required at times.
