Disney World’s Monsters Inc Land to Serve Monster-Themed Food Next Year
Walt Disney World is set to open its new Monsters, Inc.-themed land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios next year, offering guests a trip to the fictional city of Monstropolis. The land will feature unique food options designed to be both monster-friendly and appealing to human visitors. Disney’s culinary team faced the challenge of creating dishes that fit the world of Monstropolis while ensuring they weren’t too gross for humans to enjoy.
The food will reflect the land’s monster-sized personality, with dishes inspired by how monsters might eat and drink. Evan Rosenthal, beverage director, and Brian Piasecki, director of culinary and concept development, emphasized the importance of nailing down the right balance of familiarity and unexpected twists. The menus will include eyeballs, green eggs, and other monster-inspired twists on classic dishes.
Two new restaurants will open in Monstropolis: Harryhausen’s, a sushi restaurant featuring an audio-animatronic octopus chef, and Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, a quick-service pizza spot. Harryhausen’s will offer Japanese-inspired cuisine with monstrous twists, such as ramen bowls with fishcakes sliced to look like eyeballs. Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza will serve pizza and introduce Blort, a popular drink from Monstropolis, as a frozen purple beverage topped with Scream Apple Foam.
The culinary team aimed to create a mix of nostalgia and fun, ensuring the food options feel authentic to the Monsters, Inc. universe while remaining enjoyable for all guests. Rosenthal highlighted the collaborative process, where the team often pushed the boundaries to make the dishes brighter and bolder.
