Disneyland's $1.9B Expansion Brings Big Changes to Esplanade
Disneyland is undergoing significant changes as part of its $1.9 billion DisneylandForward expansion, which will bring new attractions and infrastructure to the resort.
The most noticeable impact for visitors will be the construction on the esplanade, where a new pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard is being built. To accommodate this work, temporary walkways surrounded by construction walls will be used to enter the theme parks and Downtown Disney.
The ticket booths on the east Esplanade have been demolished, and the East Security screening area has temporarily shifted to that location. The Toy Story parking lot shuttle bus drop-off and pick-up area is also changing, moving slightly north and closer to Harbor Boulevard.
The new pedestrian bridge will connect the Disneyland esplanade with a new parking structure, transportation hub, and security screening area on what is now a Cast Member parking lot. A permanent security checkpoint will be located under the bridge once construction is completed.
The construction work is expected to be completed in 2028, coinciding with the opening of Avengers Campus expansion and the Los Angeles Summer Olympics.
