Disney's 2027 Expansion Plans: Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios Get Major Makeovers

Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios are set for major expansions in 2027. The long-awaited Tropical Americas land will bring a community inspired by South America, Central America, and Mexico to the theme park. Pueblo Esperanza will introduce guests to nature and exploration, while also incorporating Disney and Pixar stories.

One attraction will send Indiana Jones into an ancient Maya temple in search of a mythical creature, while another experience will draw inspiration from the 2021 film Encanto. The Madrigal family's world will come alive for guests, with Antonio and his connection to animals playing a key role in the adventure.

Disney is also building El Carrusel de los Animalitos, a family-friendly carousel featuring 22 hand-carved animals inspired by Disney and Pixar stories. A large hacienda will house one of Walt Disney World's largest quick-service restaurants, making Pueblo Esperanza another major destination for guests.

Hollywood Studios, on the other hand, will take a phased approach with its Monstropolis expansion. The Monsters, Inc.-themed area will begin opening in 2027, with the Glob Theater and other experiences available from the start. However, the massive suspended-door coaster will arrive later as Disney continues to develop Monstropolis beyond its initial 2027 opening.

Disney has reaffirmed that both Tropical Americas and the initial portions of Monstropolis are still scheduled for 2027. Speculation suggests September could be the opening month for Tropical Americas, with November potentially being the debut for Monstropolis. However, these dates have not been confirmed by Disney, leaving construction schedules and timelines subject to change.
