Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge Restaurant Steals the Show with Unique Bowls and Desserts

The Mara, a quick-service restaurant located at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, is often overlooked by visitors in favor of its table-service counterparts, Jiko, The Cooking Place and Boma, Flavors of Africa. However, after trying their signature bowls and unique desserts, it's clear that The Mara is a hidden gem worth exploring.

The Mara is situated on the Jambo House side of the resort, near the Uzima Springs Pool area. Its interior design is themed as if diners are underneath canopies of African trees, with colorful murals on the walls showcasing animals found at both Animal Kingdom Lodge and Animal Kingdom theme park.

We tried the Oak-Grilled Chicken Bowl, which costs $13.29 and comes with marinated chicken, pilau rice, kale slaw, cucumber-tomato salad, and chermoula sour cream. The Mara also serves a shrimp bowl, but guests can opt for both by ordering the Combination Bowl for $15.79.

The bowls have a nice balance of rice, vegetables, and protein, making them a great option for lunch or dinner. We also tried the Marrakesh Falafel Platter, which is one of The Mara's plant-based menu choices. Don't skip dessert because The Mara has several delicious options, including the Zebra Domes and Caramel-Banana Cupcake.
