Disney’s Banyan Tree Reborn with Vibrant New Decorations
One of Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s most iconic landmarks, the banyan tree outside the Yak & Yeti Restaurant, has undergone a striking transformation following extensive damage from a deep freeze earlier in 2026. The tree, a favorite photo spot for visitors, was heavily pruned by Disney’s horticulture team to aid its recovery after the cold snap caused significant harm. By July, the tree’s canopy had regrown, and Disney recently added vibrant decorations, including colorful fabric, hanging garlands, and bells, to enhance its appearance.
The banyan tree, a staple of the Asia section, is more than just landscaping, it’s a key part of the park’s themed environment. The decorations, which include orange, yellow, light blue, red, and pink fabric wrapped around the trunk and roots, as well as smaller details like bells and garlands, give the tree a fresh look while maintaining the park’s signature attention to detail. The fabric and other materials have a weathered appearance, blending seamlessly with the park’s atmosphere.
The recovery process has been remarkable, with the tree going from severe damage in April to a full canopy by July and now featuring new decorative elements in October. Disney’s horticulture team played a crucial role in saving the tree, demonstrating the challenges of maintaining living parts of the park. The tree’s transformation is a testament to both the resilience of nature and Disney’s commitment to preserving and enhancing its themed environments.
