Disney's BoardWalk Lounge Hurly-Burly Unveils its Vaudevillian Secrets
Hurly-Burly, a new lounge at Disney's BoardWalk, has opened its doors to the public. Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) recently shared behind-the-scenes details about the storytelling woven into the design of the venue.
The name 'Hurly-Burly' itself is an old English phrase meaning 'tumultuous uproar,' reflecting the playful pandemonium of a live audience bursting into applause. The lounge serves as a seaside vaudeville theatre where performance and audience energy are inseparable.
A central character in Hurly-Burly is Polly Delmar, a fictional vaudeville performer billed as the Toast of the Coast. Her story plays out across the walls of the lounge in chronological order as you move through the space. This can be seen in key details such as vintage performance posters, framed red gloves and pearl necklace, early banners introducing her as a 'Famous Mermaid,' and signs referencing another chapter in her story.
