Disney's Dueling Designs: Nostalgia vs. Franchise Frenzy

The Disneyland Resort in California has reopened its Frontierland Shootin' Exposition after a summer-long refurbishment. The classic attraction, which allows guests to test their marksmanship with replica rifles, was closed on July 6, 2026, for an exterior and interior tune-up.

While Disneyland is restoring a piece of its original history, Walt Disney World in Florida is taking a different approach. Construction crews are dismantling key elements of its Frontierland area to make way for new attractions inspired by the Cars franchise and Villains Land.

The contrast between the two parks highlights two approaches to theme park design: one that prioritizes preserving classic, tactile nostalgia, and the other that focuses on large-scale expansions driven by movie franchises.
