Disney's National Treasure Revival Finally Gets Greenlight
Disney's National Treasure franchise has been plagued by delays for nearly two decades, but the studio is finally moving forward on a third film. Director Jon Turteltaub revealed that a script has been signed off and he's working to reassemble the original cast.
Turteltaub acknowledged that one of the main reasons for the delay was financial, as Nicolas Cage's salary made it hard to justify the cost without him. However, he also hinted that the current national mood played a role in the decision to put the film on hold.
The director framed the new film as an attempt to bridge the divide between different groups of people, but he also joked about how even his own mortality could affect the project's fate, saying 'If I get hit by a bus, there's probably a National Treasure 3'.
