Disney's New Mary Poppins Show: A Darker Take on a Beloved Classic
A new Mary Poppins TV show is reportedly in the works at Disney, and it's expected to deviate significantly from the classic 1964 film. According to Deadline, the live-action series will draw inspiration from the original eight books written by P.L. Travers, which offer a more mysterious and magical take on the beloved character.
The books are said to be darker and more complex than the Disney movie, with themes of danger and fear that are not present in the film. Tom Winchester's production company, Pure Fiction Television, has optioned the rights from the P.L. Travers estate and is currently in talks with top-level showrunners.
The project is still in its early stages, with no official agreement with Disney yet secured. However, there is hope that the studio may join the project given their history with the Mary Poppins IP.
